Very enjoyable action story with plenty of mythology, amazing feats of strength and courage, and our favorite band of secret warriors.
This book would be a good pick for anyone who likes science fiction, monsters, mad men, and super warriors. I highly recommend this book, the second in the Chess Team series. If you haven’t read any of the Chess Team series, the first book is Prime and tells us how the team came into being. It is not necessary to read the first book before reading this book, though. It’s a great standalone. Now, I’m off on another adventure.

This book revisits an obsessed billionaire who believes his quest for immortality entitles him to sacrifice as many innocent civilians as he desires. Chess Team is out to try o center again to top-notch extreme justice-but Ridley manages tokidnap King's friend Peirce and steal Hercules' Hydra. Ridley's scientists experiment with regeneration-therefore immortaliy with frightening results. The book is excellent but needs a little closer editing, simple things like using 'site' when it needs 'sight' and at one poi t when the Team are divided into two groups with Queen and Room in Greece whiskIng, Bishop and Knight are in New Hampshire, the author has King and Room walking through the woods. But overall great writing and story. I've got the third book ready to go. Happy reading!

The special ops team fighting against unnatural enemies is a pretty fail-proof action genre, but IMHO there are some series out there that do it slightly better. ( Monster Hunter International and Joe Ledger come to mind.) Nonetheless, Mr. Robinson is a fun writer and worth reading. Hercules and the Hydra, what's not to like?
The first Chess Team Adventure is packed with action and thrills. I'm a huge fan of the action thriller genre, including Rollins and Berry. Jeremy Robinson's latest work is among the best I've read.
Start with the dust jacket blurb - "How many people would you kill to live forever?". How can you not want to read it? And the book doesn't disappoint. The Chess Team is an elite Delta unit tasked with solving problems that no one else will or can. Now, I know the idea of a small elite unit willing to do what it takes to keep people safe is not exactly a new concept. But Robinson pulls it off by creating characters you want to know more about and with a touch just light enough to make it compelling.
You want action? There's plenty of that. Surprises? Sure, just wait until you find out who they meet in the second half of the book. Above all, the book moves at the exact right pace for an action thriller, never letting up, but never sacrificing plot for blowing things up.
The writing is dead-on as well. In Robinson's earlier books, that was always the case, but somehow he's raised his game a notch here. And even though action is the key, great writing makes a difference.
So if you like Rollins and Berry, you won't be disappointed by Pulse. My only complaint? I have to wait until the next one comes out to read more.
I chose this as my gym book as it was on my and I wouldn't be embarrassed if the person on the treadmill next to me saw what I was reading (as I was when I was into a steamy scene in a Nalini Singh book). I've read lots of Jeremy Robinson and am a big fan, and this book was no exception.
Although there was a bit too much military jargon for me (yeah, a gun is just a gun to me LOL), the story was fast paced, well researched and interesting. I really liked the characters and look forward to reading more of the group dynamic as the books progress.

suggested this book to me based on my other purchases and since I had nothing I felt like reading at the time I took a shot and downloaded it right then and there.
LOVED IT!
There's a maniacal villian (who pops up in subsequent Chess Team novels) who believes that he has found the key to immortality under the Peruvian dessert in the shape of the mythical Hydra.

You can see why this monster being set loose on an unsuspecting family camp ground is NOT a good idea, so they call in The Chess Team (Special Forces operatives that have now branched off to form their own unit specifically for dealing with threats like this) to take care of it. I enjoyed meeting the members of Chess Team, and getting to know who was who, who could do that, and what there specialties are. In Robinson's very capable hands, this book rarely veers off into the completely ignorant and outrageous, though it's plain to see that the subject it just that.
So much fun! Highly recommend
So that sort of says it all.... lots of action, a story with enough twists, and pretty decent writing.
You can’t read these without suspension of disbelief, nor trying to be logical. It just won’t work. But kick off your shoes, get comfortable in your favorite chair or on the couch, and just enjoy the ride! A satisfying read for me. As I said, it’s a read for fun.... as always, your mileage may vary!
