In 13th century England Dominican Inquisitors are on the hunt, weeding out heretics to protect the Holy Mother Church. Scarred by memories of the Inquisition’s power, Edric Bigge decides to leave the tiny English hamlet of Aldinoch for France where he hopes to make a living painting murals on the walls of its great cathedrals. But Edric is not the only Englishman who's come to Paris. His old foe, Bishop Hugo, arrives with a directive to examine the faith of a young noblewoman, Isabella du Forez.

After months in the dungeon beneath l’Eglise du Notre Dame des Pauvres, the once beautiful Isabella is sick, half-starved and lice-ridden. Still she is called to answer the questions put to her by velvet caped Bishop Hugo. Too weak and disheartened to imagine defending her thoughts and actions, her vain attempt to escape a forced marriage and create a life of her own, Isabella decides that her only hope is to find a way to die before she faces the Inquisition’s flames. But Edric has another idea.

I read both The Hounds of God and the first book in the series, The Witch of Leper Cove. I enjoyed both tremendously, and find it easy to visualize the characters and the scenes in which they are placed. The characters are well-developed, with truly human good qualities and flaws. I look forward to any of Ms. Bogen's forthcoming books!

The Hounds of God A Tale of 13th Century England The Aldinoch Chronicles Book 2 edition by Deborah Bogen Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I was gifted the first book in this series by the author when I was going through some health issues and had a lot of down time. I loved it and was happy then to buy this second book to find out the rest of the story. I was not disappointed. It starts off pretty much where the first book left off and once again we are transported to 13th century England and watching our three favourite characters continue their lives. I won't go into detail because I think it's something that needs to be read to fully enjoy!

Once again though, Edric finds himself up against the "Hounds Of God" and wants to find a way to stop them, so it seems his story is the main theme of the book. There were parts that made me cheer, other parts that made me sigh and others that I cried at. The book is well written, excellently crafted and you can tell just how much research Bogen has done to make the book as authentic as possible. It's a lovely story and should there be a third in the series, I will be anxious to read that one too! Overall an excellent book with a lot of surprising twists and turns. I think I have found a new author who's work I will buy and read without question! Highly recommended!
Just finished reading Hounds of God. Fabulous intertwined plots and characterization. Great writing with great dialogue, moral quandaries that seemed relevant even to this 21st century reader, and a touching storyline that kept me interested.
A fabulous read! In this second book in the series, Edric again face down the Inquisition -- this time in Paris! -- while Lily and Wyll confront changes they could never have expected. A fascinating tale of life and love in 13th century Europe.
Although I enjoyed the first book, I found this sequel to be much more engaging. The story lines move quickly, and the characters are very vivid.
Anxious to read the followup to Witch of Leper Cove, I read this book when it first came out. I enjoyed it so much I brought it on vacation and just read it again last week while I lounged at the beach. With this series you get really interesting characters, fabulous history and enough action/adventure to make it hard to put down. I've ended up with deep affection for several of the characters (new and old) in Hounds, and am once again anxiously awaiting a sequel.
Our heroes from The Witch of Leper Cove book have grown up and are growing into themselves. Young love is exciting but apparently comes with heavy doses of responsibility in the 13th century! And may involve sleeping in trees. A really intriguing follow-up to the first book, and it makes me look forward to the next in the Aldinoch series. There are some intriguing questions left open about the fate of Inquisitors, the three 'orphans', their travels, their faith, and their loves.
God's Hounds accurately carries on The Witch of Leper Cove (which I also gave a 5 star review to).....same characters as they continue their lives, creating and solving problems, growing in their relationships. God's Hounds focuses on Edric's maturing and venturing to Paris to improve his lot in life as also with his twin brother and older sister. Kept me engrossed the entire story.
